Gasoholics Anonymous is an attempt by one man to beat his addiction to oil. Oil appears to be a core geopolitical problem in the world, and is the issue I keep seeing as leading to wars and ecological disasters around the world. There are other ways to power our society, and it appears that with the era of cheap oil coming to a close we will soon be forced to do so. There wasn't sufficient willpower for us to choose on our own other sources of power, which paints us into the corner of having to change.
I hope by my example to encourage others to do the same.
I am David Herron and am currently employed as a software engineer in Silicon Valley.
At the moment this site is run by me, David Herron, but in the back of my mind I think: Wouldn't it be wonderful if a bunch of us were talking together about this issue? We could share ideas, and resources, and successes, or failures, and maybe even plot together activism or other ways to promote the idea of freeing ourselves from oil. The software this site runs on is quite capable of supporting a community of people talking with each other. If you find this idea interesting, shoot me an email (click on my name above and you'll see a contact form). I know that if this site were to become a community operation, that there must be people willing to help administer and monitor the site.
